This SG and its descendants have made legendary music in the hands of countless major artists'Eric Clapton, Robby Krieger, Angus Young, Derek Trucks, and more'because to this day the Les Paul/SG remains a forerunner for tone, feel and looks. The guitar has been a rock essential ever since. One more thing I noticed is the tuning keys are more white on the older version and more vintage ivory looking on the newer vintage style tuners. In 1961, Gibson took a quantum leap forward in style and design by updating the traditional single-cutaway Les Paul to a sleek new double-cutaway design, known simply as the SG Standard after 1962. Just because a pickup is off doesn't mean it stops magnetically pulling obviously. The guitars sound better because the strings resonate more freely. So basically the only differences are the nut, tuners, jack location.Īs for these guitars many famous guitarists record using the single p-90 because you don't have any magnetic pull from the neck pickup at all times. The headsock looks a smidge wider but it could be an optical illusion with camera distance and different type of tuner. I'm sure the tuner holes are different sizes, they have to be by default with the type used. I had not noticed the jack! Thank you for the info, I actually prefer the jack on the face of the guitar on this type of guitar, like an SG or a Strat sort of. I know they both have the low cryogenically treated frets which are great. Wow, I knew someone here bought one and would know all of this info.

The second set of similar images is of the new version which is more of a vintagey look. The first twqo pictures are the less expensive version which is the older version at the beginning of the year. Is there any difference in parts quality like with the bridge material etc? Those things I need to know and can't find hell all online about anything. The last set of pictures is of the guitar I bought from their ad on Reverb in Worn Cherry.
#TRIBUTE GIBSON LES PAUL NECK JOINT SERIAL#
I'm more interested in why they made two different versions in the same year? Was it a new management thing? The stamp on the back of the headstocks is also different as is the serial numbering sequence, it switches to the new way mid run or something. I ask this because I just bought one of these this morning without knowing there was a difference which is fine really with the tuners and nut etc. I see visually that the headstock has different tuners, one has the old style with bushings and smaller reamed hole and the other has modern tuners that are 10mm reamed holes.Īlso one has a Tektoid nut (cheaper version) and one (the newer) has a graph tech nut. What are the differences between Manufacturer Part Number (MPN): LPJDT00WECH1 which is the $899 one and Manufacturer Part Number (MPN): LPJDT19WECH1 which is the $679 version?

I'm sure it must have been discussed somewhere but it isn't coming up.

I did a search and while there were a few threads on this guitar there wasn't any info I could find anyway on the differences between two versions of the same thing in this group.
